Stampin' Up! Tool Tip: How to Stamp a Clean Image Using a Large Stamp

Do you ever have problems with a larger image not stamping completely in the center? Whether its an image like this chevron oval from the Oh, Hello stamp set or one of Stampin' Up!'s large image stamps (pgs. 128-129 Annual Catalog) - you may be asking "How do I stamp a clean, complete large image?"

The answer?  Grab your Stampin' Pierce Mat! 

Though the Stampin' Pierce Mat is originally intended to work with our Paper Piercing Packs and the Paper Piercing technique -  it is also a great help when stamping.

How To Stamp a Clean Image Using a Large Stamp:

Place your card stock on top of the Stampin' Pierce Mat and stamp.  The foam mat will allow your card stock "to give" to your rubber stamp.  This will encourage the two to "meet in the middle" and you will end up with a complete and clean large image!  Woot!

An additional benefit to using the Stampin' Up! Stampin' Pierce Mat when you stamp - it allows you to achieve your stamped image using less pressure.  A few of my clients use a Stampin' Pierce Mat when stamping due to arthritis or lack of hand strength.

Customer Q&A - Stampin' Up! Clear Mount Stamps

The comment I'm hearing lately from many of my clients who are making the switch for Stampin' Up! wood-mount stamps to Stampin' Up! Clear Mount Stamps is,

"I am having problems with my Clear Mount Stamps

not clinging to my Clear Mount Blocks."

I have a few suggestions for you -

• Use Stampin' Up!'s Clear Block Cleaning Cloth to clean your Clear Mount Blocks AND the cling side of your stamp.  Though the creating process, your blocks and stamps will gather adhesive residue, skin oils and other "gunk" that will get in the way of a good cling.  This cloth will buff away the residue and also works well for cleaning eye glasses!

• Warm your Clear Mount Blocks and Clear Mount stamps.  Imagine trying to adhere a cold window cling to a cold window in your house.  They won't stick together and the same goes for Clear Mount Stamps.  Warm up both the Clear Mount Blocks and stamp by "huffing" (breathing) on them.  Kind of like when you clean a pair of eye glasses.
• If you are still having problems - you may have some tough "gunk" to get off.  This can be done in a couple of ways
  • Use rubbing alcohol on your Clear Mount Blocks only (not on your stamps) and allow to dry completely.  I keep a stash of the individually packaged rubbing alcohol swabs in my stamp counter.  Think first-aid kit stuff.
  • Clean your Clear Mount Blocks using Dawn dish soap.  Rinse and dry well.

• Last ditch effort - Lick your Clear Mount Blocks.  *GASP*  Now, I do not personally do this, but saw another demonstrator do this as a joke.  It made me laugh and I thought you might find it funny.  I guess it would keep other people from wanting to borrow your stamps!  EEW!

Tool Tip - Burping Brads

When using Stampin' Up! Brads, would you like them to sit down a little flatter on your project? 

Then BURP THEM!  Now, I'm not talking the kind of burp that I hear from the boys in my house -  more like the plastic storage container lid burp.

 

Simply take your Stampin' Up! Bone Folder and press down on your brad top. 

 

And VOILA!  Your brad embellishment now sits nice and flat!

Now, I know that this may be an oldie for some of you, but I still find some of these tips brand new to many of my clients.

Good News!

Today I really wanted to share some good news and this is the best news of all!

HE IS RISEN!!

It seems that family and friends all around me are dealing with very difficult circumstances and my heart has been very heavy this week.  I had to remind myself this morning to Rejoice in the Lord because he knows every detail of every one of these situations.  I am very thankful to serve the Living God!

This card uses the Clean and Simple Stamping Blogs Fall To Layout #184:

This is a great layout for using up Designer Series Paper pieces.  I used the beautiful, vintage-themed Attic Boutique Designer Series Paper for this card.  The focal element is the Easter Dove stamp which has been heat embossed.  Both the Designer Series Paper and the Easter Dove stamp can be found in the Occasions Mini Catalog.

Heat Embossing Tip:

• Create your own Craft Pad - if you don't have the correct Craft Stampin' Pad color for your project - create your own!  Simply ink your image in VersaMark Ink first, then add the Classic Ink Color of your choice and stamp your image.  Cover with Clear Stampin' Emboss Power and Heat.  For this card I inked up my "He Is Risen" image with VersaMark Ink and then Soft Suede Classic Ink - then I stamped and heat embossed it.
• Emboss A Small/Open Area - On this card the inside of the dove is Heat Embossed by using the VersaMarker pen and White Stampin' Emboss Powder.

Tuesday Tool Tip - Storing Your Stampin' Up! Framelits Dies

Are you loving the Labels Framelits Dies in the Occasions Mini Catalog?  I sure am!  Here is an alternative method for storing your Framelits Dies.

Using a Clear-Mount Stamp Case (which you can purchase in a 4 pack), adhere three cut strips of our Magnet Sheets to the back.  Your Framelits will be held in place securely and will remove easily when you are ready to use them.

Note - this is not my original idea but it was a great one and I wanted to share!!

It's a Monday Makeover of Better Homes and Gardens

When I received my March 2012 copy of Better Homes and Gardens magazine - I was instantly inspired!  That great home decor layout on the cover was a perfect inspiration for a card!!

 

Here is the card that I was inspired to create.  I'm not sure I've ever put so many different colors together!  But with the neutral card base, it works!

The botanical images come from Pocket Silhouettes stamp set and they are heat embossed with Whisper White Craft Ink and White Stampin' Emboss Powder.  The greeting, from the Sweetly Said stamp set, is heat embossed as well.

Heat Embossing Tip:

• If you do not have the appropriate color of Craft Pad that you desire for your project - I have a short cut.  Ink your stamp image with VersaMark Ink.  Then tap your stamp image into the Classic Ink Pad color of your choice and stamp.  Coat with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat with Heat Tool.  Your VersaMark Pad gives you the pigment ink needed and your Classic Ink Pad provides the color. 

The individual colors are punched out using the 1" Square Punch and are mounted to a Postage Stamp Punch of Whisper White Card Stock.  They are "popped" using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Brad Tip:

• If you want to embellish with a brad, but don't want the tails to show through on the back side of your card stock (and there isn't a layer of card stock to hide them), Cut off the tails using your Craft and Rubber Scissors and adhere the brads using Mini Glue Dots.

KISS - Tying a Simple Square Knot in Your Ribbon

Happy Saturday to you and welcome to your Keep It Simple Saturday!  This project is not only simple in it's result but I have a technique for conserving ribbon on your projects and resulting in a simple, perfect square knot ribbon!

 

This project combines two different challenges that fit right in with our Keep It Simple Saturday theme - Splitcoast's Clean and Simple Challenge (CAS141) using Chocolate Chip, Red and Vanilla (oops, I used Whisper White) and Clean and Simple Stamping's Fall To Layout 165:

 I did flip the sketch!

 

So, how do you tie a simple square knot with your ribbon?

 

Simply adhere the ends of your strip of ribbon.  On this project, the Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots Ribbon is adhered to the back of the Frostwood Lodge Designer Series Paper.  You can see, in the next photo, that I chose to use the plain side of the ribbon rather than the dotted side.

 

The Designer Series Paper is adhered to the card front and then you slide a second piece of ribbon underneath the long strip.  Tie in a single knot!  That's it!  You have a  perfect square knot and you used less ribbon than wrapping it around the entire card front!

Simple!

Do You Need A Pal?

 

Powder Pals that is!  Today I wanted to share with you Stampin' Up!'s Powder Pals and their many uses.

First the technical details:

• Set includes 2 trays and a brush.
• Large tray size, 10" x 14" x 1"; small tray size 6" x 8" x 1"; both sizes have a 1/2" funnel opening.
• Include rubber plugs in funnels.

These "handy dandy" little trays make heat embossing and glitter use in your paper crafting so much easier - especially for multiple projects!

Simply pour in your product, slide your project underneath the glitter or embossing power to coat and shake/tap off excess. There is no need to clean up your work space from stray powder/glitter.

When you are done, remove the rubber plug from the funnel and return your powder/glitter to it's container - no mess!

Powder Pals Tips:

• Use the included brush clean out all angles of the Powder Pals.
• I would suggest to rinse out your Powder Pals when switching from one product to another.  You don't need stray pink glitter in your Clear Embossing Powder.

What other uses could you think of for the Powder Pals?  This weekend, I met a jewelry maker and she plans to use her Powder Pals to help sort her beads!

What about using it with sprinkles when you are baking?  Making sure you washed it thoroughly of course!  The large Powder Pal would give you room to decorate your goodies and keep your sprinkles from rolling all over your counters!
